Cinderwreckya – Featured Skater of the Month
Ever wonder what your favorite roller girls are like in real life? The Cape Fear Roller Girls are women from all walks of life who are united by our passion for roller derby. In our monthly series, we pull back the curtain to show you what CFRG’s skaters do when we’re not on skates.
Our featured skater for the month of July is #12, Cinderwreckya.
- On the Track
Cinderwreckya is returning to the track as a blocker after taking a six month injury leave.
- For the League
Cinderwreckya (known to her teammates as Wrex) serves on the Bout Production Committee, where she helps plan the logistics and details of all our home bouts. Prior to that, Wrex served as the Treasurer for the league for two years.
- Off the Track
When she’s not skating, Wrex is a Human Resource Manager at GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy. She has a lot on her plate, as she’s responsible for “hiring, firing, investigations, salary planning, career development, performance management, organizational effectiveness, discipline, policies, etc. for a group of about 300 engineers.”
- At Home
Not only does she work full-time and skate with CFRG, Cinderwreckya is also a mom! She has two daughters, a 6-year-old (who she calls her “mini-me”) and a 9-year-old (her husband’s “mini-me”). On top of that, she has a yellow lab who she says “eats books, lots and lots of books.”
In her free time, Wrex enjoys hiking, camping, and “any type of adventure” with her family. Before becoming a roller girl, she attended the University of Richmond where she graduated with a degree in Leadership Studies. Wrex was also a high jumper on the track team in college.
- Why She Skates
Cinderwreckya never planned on becoming a roller girl, but says, “I just sort of fell into it… I was just curious and that curiosity turned into a challenge to conquer. Derby is different from anything I have ever done… I have learned a ton through the process and still working on getting all the pieces to come together.”
